In the night of February 25-26, 1992 Armenian armed forces invaded Khojaly, village located in Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan Republic. The most incredible side of this invasion was that Khojaly was not protected by Azerbaijani army, except small local police squad.

During the attack, 613 people, including children and women, were brutally killed and hundreds were disabled. 1,275 people were captured, the fate of the hundreds is still unknown. Also more than 5000 people were displaced from their homes.

This week there is a 20th anniversary of this human tragedy. On February 26, 2012 all people not indifferent to bloody event are gathering on Taksim Square, Istanbul, to remember this crime.

Please be informed that on March 3, 2011 , the Texas House of Representatives passed Resolution 535 recognizing and commemorating victims of the Khojaly massacre. In February 2011, five members of the US House of Representatives  have issued Congressional statements remembering the victims of Khojaly massacre and condemning the crime. On February 26, 2009, US Congressman Ed Whitfield solemnly recognized 17th anniversary of the massacre at Khojaly, and appraised the lives lost in this great tragedy.

Recently all countries of the Organization of Islamic Conference, Parliaments of Mexico and Pakistan have recognized Khojaly massacre as genocide.

On 26 February 2012 people condoling Khojaly genocide are gathering on Taksim Square to urge the world to see the truth and ask for justice.
